Being behind the camera has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, thanks to my family’s support. After 18 years in the corporate world, handling technology and training, my passion for photography really took off in 2007. Newly married, I bought my first ‘semi-DSLR’ camera and started capturing everything from nature, animals to cityscapes and people.

Over years, the learning process has progressed steadily. This growth has been powered by my dedication to pursue photography, engage with peers, learn through online resources, and delve into the understanding of angles, light, processing, and experimenting across different genres.

In 2013, on a trip to Mauritius, envisaging being surrounded by nature and images of the Mauritian sun, sand, ocean, sunrises, and sunsets, I decided to get myself a DSLR. I spent days reading and trying to master the camera settings to get better images every time I went out.

My journey into the depths of photography began with a move to Manchester in 2017. It was here that I joined the South Manchester Camera Club, delving into the world of different photography genres. After four years, I felt the urge to transition from crop sensor to full frame cameras. I took the leap and upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark IV, pairing it with 24-105, 70-200, and a 100mm Macro lens. Like most photographers, my kit continued to expand from there.

In 2019, circumstances dictated us to return to India. Amidst the pandemic and lockdowns, I sought solace in photographing birds from my balcony. As restrictions lifted, a close friend offered an opportunity to join a birding trip. The joy of identifying and capturing diverse bird species in their natural surroundings was immense, yet the challenge of photographing them in flight was a skill I needed to master. This pursuit gave my photography a fresh purpose and sparked a new journey of learning and discovery.

Pursuing my dreams, I attended a Herping Photography Workshop near Mumbai City. The workshop was a treasure trove of knowledge, enriching my skills and introducing me to inspiring individuals, who are now my close friends. This journey reignited an adventurous spirit within me. Next, I received a call to join a workshop on photographing leopards. The excitement kept building, and I just went with the flow. One call led to another, and I mainly photographed wildlife.

Venturing into the wild is a roller-coaster ride of surprises, delights, and sometimes, disappointments. From spotting a cub within mere minutes of a safari, to waiting for days to catch a glimpse of a tiger, every expedition is unique. There’s an inexplicable thrill in lying by a waterfall in a rainforest, composing a picture of a frog protecting her spawn while a Malabar Pit-Viper lurks nearby. The joy of returning with beautifully composed images is immense, but the wisdom gained from each expedition is priceless.
